This Classic Gem from 1972 is by far the coolest vending machine Ive ever come across, and looks to be very worthy of a complete restoration! It is a National Vendors, CDM 72 single cup soda dispenser! It is designed to first drop a single cup, and then dispense ice, and finally a combination of soda syrup and carbonated water. ALL OF THE ORIGINAL SERVICE AND PARTS MANUALS ARE INCLUDED FOR THE WHOLE MACHINE AS WELL AS THE ICEMAKER SPECIFICALLY!
These manuals provide extremely detailed info on EVERY part of this vending machine, from in depth electrical diagrams, to parts lists, to service and trouble shooting guides. These will be absolutely crucial to the restoration, and they are all included! Heres what I do know about its current functionality. Coin mech and vend cycle functions properly! The icemaker motor needs to be rebuilt, and the refrigeration system that keeps the entire inside of the machine cold will need to be worked on.
Both systems power on, but only the hopper door of the icemaker works, and the main refrigeration system is designed to start pumping Freon for the inside of the unit only after the icemaker is full with ice, so it hums, but I have never seen it in action. The cup dispensing system works great, its a big carousel style system that drops a single cup per vend and can use 9-12OZ cups.It has the capacity to store several hundreds of cups! I have seen the syrup and water pumps work properly, but it has not been hooked up to a water line in about a year.
(There are 6 different syrup pumps in addition to the water pump) 4 syrup tanks included! The unit has a newer water filter installed, and also includes another brand new water filter! I never got around to working on the carbonator, but all the parts are there including the CO2 tank, which will need to be recertified before its refilled for use.
The system is also able to be set to not carbonate certain selections, allowing it to dispense iced tea and other non carbonated beverages as well! This unit is VERY HEAVY (around 700Lbs) so bring a few friends to help move it! It stands at 6' tall, a bit more than 3' wide, and a bit less than 3' deep. Its currently sitting on a rolling cart for (slightly) easier mobility.
Overall a very solid unit that could make for an excellent and unique restoration project!
