Vintage 1930's Adams 1 Cent Wall Mounted Chewing Gum Machine , Stewart & McGuire. I recall seeing them hanging from the steel columns on the subway platforms as a young child in New York City. The machine was produced by Stewart & McGuire Inc. It was designed to dispense individually wrapped pieces of gum.
The machine is still functional. The 4 decorative mirrors are not original to the piece. Originally there would have been two small advertising placards that read "ADAMS Chewing Gum" where the mirrors are now.The paint is all original with no attempts at restoration. There are two original keys for the working lock on top of the machine. When unlocked, the lid lifts up allowing access to a pull lever that releases the front door to swing open allowing full internal access.
There are no chips or cracks in the six glass windows. The original internal coin box was missing, so a home made make-shift box was built to collect the inserted coins making the unit functional. Two wooden strips were attached to the back of the machine as spacers to allow the top lid to open and close freely when the machine is wall mounted.
All of the pull levers and internal mechanisms work. The machine measures 15" tall x 10 1/4" wide x 6 3/4 deep.
