I installed a bullet piercing valve, evacuated the system and partially recharged the system with 12oz of R-12 refrigerant out of the total 16oz capacity. Installed a new condenser motor and have had it running for 6 weeks in the hot sun. I believe enough refrigerant leaked out of the bullet piercing valve to stop cooling, and a saddle valve should be brazed in, then it can be pressure tested with nitrogen. There was some refrigerant in the system after 67 years. If there is a leak it is very insignificant.
