Rare and wonderful countertop lighter fluid dispenser that would have been found at an old gas station or hardware store in the 1920s or 1930s. The is one was a promotional piece with free fluid according to the original brass nameplate, but most of these types of units were coin-operated. This one does not have a coin slot. Some of these had the name of the local store on the brass plate and others have a brand name NASCO, but this one has the "Free" sign.
This is larger than it looks in photos and made of cast iron and glass (the fluid cup is cast aluminum), so it's heavy. It has not been tested for use. There is wear to the old paint from age and use.
The old paint appears to have been repainted, but that was done very long ago given the craquelure in the surface and the mellow patina.
