This is one of those rare machines. This unit has the an amazing metal lid that is embossed with "Retarded Children Can Be Helped". The decal on the glass globe is one of the most sought after as it shows the sad boy and advertises the charity by stating, "Help Retarded Children" "Tennessee Association for Retarded Children and Adults" from the Nashville chapter.

The decal on this is bright and vivid without and cracking or flaking. The only flaw is the scratch marks to left of the 10cent circle where the vendor scraped off the old penny denomination. The word "retarded" may not be politically correct anymore but millions of dollars were raised for down syndrome through this program. Own this piece of Americana and you will have the rarest gumball machines in this industry. This is a piece for many types of collections including vending, Americana, weird history, and political incorrectness.

This particular machine is in original condition. It displays the unique patina you would expect from a machine that is 60+ years old.
